woodworking

So, I don't have much to say about this page. It's in the middle of being created and I'm not sure what to do with it. Seems that most woodworkers have an "artist statement" and then some images of their work. I might just put a brief description of each piece under each picture...time will tell. If anybody reads this and has any feedback please let me know!!!

the trouble with lyrics

This page was a bit of a challenge because it's very text heavy. I have a couple other pages like this one. I liked the image because it already had a lot of text on it. I just made the song titles bigger to make it clear that, well, they are the song titles. I made the page a little wider than some of the others and it hasn't seemed to make a difference in most browsers. I was researching common web page sizes and what I found was that 1024X768 is the most commonly used. So I'm building all my pages in this size being careful to note the hexidecimal code. That way when I go into dreamweaver I can fade the page out. This lyrics page is a good example of this. I do worry that the song titles are a little cumbersome, but other than just having a list on a blank page all that text will always create a design issue.

redesigning the redesign.

Well, in light of what I learned about web sites and design I've decided to change my ideas. Design wise things will pretty much be the same. I'm still going with the theme of encyclopedia/collage. Basically a random selection of images from old encyclopedias that I've edited in photoshop and then put links in. At the suggestion of Zack I'm going with a navigation bar at the top of the page. This has proved to be very helpful in many ways. It will be easy to find since it's located in the same place on every page, and it doesn't detract from the images as much. This image is my home page or index page. I like it a lot better without the links in the image as the earlier version showed. Gerry made sense when he said the whole page becomes the art, including the text. It was one of those, "oh crap, of course it does" moments.

page 3

I have watched the tutorials, especially revo22x that Gerry turned us onto, and have come up with a plan. I must first create all the web pages in photoshop and then go into dream weaver to activate the links. I had problems with figuring out how to do my "lyrics" page. Basically, I have 34 songs that each need their own html file. When you go to the lyrics page there will be a list of song titles. When you click on the song title it will take you to a page that has the lyrics for that song and a "back" button. There has got to be an easier, more efficient way to do this, but I cannot find it. As well, I was going to put up a paypal link for people that wanted to pay for downloading songs but as a donation not purchasing a service. Paypal seems to have all sorts of stuff for having an e-commerce site, but I can't find the info for a donation button. I'll keep looking into this.
The graphics for the site are mainly collagesque. Since the main page is my digital self portrait that was collage stuff I've decided to make the rest of the site that way too. I have 5 pages done so far and will post them later today.

page 2.

This will be my new page. The image was my digital self portrait. It made sense that since the website is about me, a self portrait would fit perfectly for the main page. I plan to use the same collage technique for the other pages. As you can see I'm having issues with the size of the main page. seems to not fit in browser windows. The question is do I fix it in photoshop or dreamweaver? I just spent the last hour downloading stuff from the old site so that i have it for the new site. Seems that it will be a substantial amount of work involved. Especially the pages that have multiple images. Some will have to wait, (flyer gallery and religious tack), because those items are in storage in northern VA. The page will simply go to an "under construction" page and then I'll work on them in December. Next step is to conquer the main page image size...which I'll do right now.

turning the page...

So, this was my old web page. Yeah, it was pretty dated. Not to mention there were 3 different people updating and rearranging things over the years. I decided to use this project to give the old site a face lift and add some new stuff as well.

on the first day it was the 8th day...

On the first day it was the 8th day. And a blog was created for them and they all rejoiced throwing their jump drives in the air and singing various songs in harmonic resonance and other highly ambient domain. Welcome to resurrecting charliepost.com!
